If I could afford to be a minimalist -I would be one, but for now, this one's for the creative kids.

EEEEK!  I got the best surprise last night.
Imbomag published their September/October 2012 issue and guess who's on the cover?!
Although, I did know about the whole thing but it was still a surprise  because I'm quite dwanky at times.
Here are some of the pictures from the youth driven online magazine, Zazi Magazine.
BUT!
Before we get to that, I've been in Joburg for a week now and I must say I'm not feeling home sick just yet I've just been missing my toddler. The weather here is ridiculously hot and since I've been living like a gypsy for this whole holiday (traveling and not living in one place)  it's been super hard to dress according to my planner.
I'm kidding, I don't have a planner but this weather  has officially killed my black Friday.
I wanted to spend my holiday "blog free" but I couldn't,  mostly because I wanted to see the "Losing you" video that everyone has been ranting about. I don't blame them - she's too cool for words.
Damn her.

Don't forget to check out the issue! x

My Inspiration.

Dear Reader! x
Ever since I was inspired by Solange Knowles & her epic box braids - I've been in touch with my African side. I am a proud Xhosa girl, but it feels like I have not been in touch with my roots. I have taken some time to show you some references of what I would love to do for my next shoot.
I love Africa, I wish I could see it all before I do this shoot.

I really do live in a beautiful continent - filled with colour & pride, intriguing cultures & religions.
If I could get the opportunity to travel the world - I would start in Africa.

AND  the fashion here is so inspiring !!!

Punch-my-pussy!
Boxing Kitten.

Both playful and audacious, equal part reverie while pushing the boundaries of fashion completely forward, Boxing Kitten is a vibrant melee of Then and Now. Vintage-inspired silhouettes celebrate a time gone by, with designs that call upon the spirit and lives of mid-century American women that are modernized for the woman of today and the future.

The Lady
Maya Amina Lake was born in Brooklyn, NY. Daughter to Marion and Oliver Lake, she grew up in New Jersey and has a B.A. in African-American studies from Wesleyan University. She is an avid indoor and beach volleyball player and has an Abyssinian cat named Fancy. Lake is a self taught designer and entrepreneur.

The Fabric
It seems the batik, or wax-print, fabrics that are so indispensable to West African traditional dress are not, by and large, actually from Africa. The most coveted, the ones that set the trends, are designed and manufactured in the Netherlands, in the nondescript factory town of Helmond, by the Vlisco corporation. And this is nothing new. The Dutch, and Vlisco in particular, have dominated the African print-fabric market since the end of the nineteenth century.
